Wow – what a weekend!

Our first ‘Sandiway Scampers’ weekend has been a fantastic success! On both Saturday and Sunday, visiting and “home” engines were kept busy, hauling passengers, entertaining drivers and generally having fun. Of course, being blessed by brilliant weather played a big part in making the event so enjoyable, while raising funds for our chosen charity for 2025, The Christie Charity.

Huge thanks to everyone who brought an engine (especially Martin from Yorkshire and Stevie, and his Mum, from Bedfordshire), rode on a train, made tea, sold tickets, marshalled the troops and, of course, contributed to our charity – and let’s do it all again next year!

Our next special event is the 2025 Charity Gala, on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June – expect to see multiple steam engines, static exhibits and even get to drive an engine for yourself! Remember, of course, that we are open every Sunday, as well as Bank Holiday Monday 26 May.

Here are a few snaps of the Sandiway Scampers event – enjoy!

Scamps and friends gather at the start of Saturday morning.
Stevie had brought Scamp 141 (appropriately named Red Dwarf) all the way from Bedfordshire…
…and Martin had brought – well, nobody quite worked out what Martin had brought (except that it had a total of six wheels and a couple of batteries, it reminded some of us of a Roland Emett creation, and it was a lot of fun) from Yorkshire.
On Sunday we assembled what we think is the longest train ever to have run at Sandiway, headed by five Scamps (numbers 103, 49, 105, 141 and 78). Serious thrash, for those of you who like that sort of thing! Driving the leading locomotive is the designer of the Scamp, Colin Edmondson, who we are fortunate to count as a member of MCSME.
Also bringing out the silly grins was another of Colin’s creations, Flyer, here being driven by Stevie, with his Mum keeping a close eye on proceedings. This being a still, you can’t actually see how fast he was going…
Well, there had to be a steam engine. This time it was Gloin, brought by its owner, Andy.
There was a serious point to all this. Donations for our chosen charity, The Christie Charity, are always welcome. Our next event is the 2025 Charity Gala, on 28 and 29 June.
