Our chosen charity for this year is Let’s Farm, a real working farm for people with learning disabilities based in the outskirts of Winsford, about three miles from our railway. It offers people with learning disabilities the chance to take part in farming life, make new friends and develop new skills in a safe but exciting environment. Most importantly Let’s Farm is about having fun and supporting mental wellbeing.
On Sunday 8 February, some £400 was raised during the course of our first event, our Romulus Gala. One regular described the scene that greeted him, that of half a dozen locomotives in steam at Woodside station, as being like King’s Cross station in days of old – perhaps some rose-tinted spectacles, but the sight and smell of so many engines in steam was very impressive! Thanks are due to everyone who helped organise the gala, to those who brought their engines (in some cases considerable distances) to take part, and to everybody who bought tickets, made donations and had fun during the day. After the grotty weather of recent weeks, we even had dry and, at times, sunny conditions!
